Feeling Sleighted?
Eric Mead
Try this conjuring trick: Make three world-class magicians appear in one small valley. Poof! Already done. The Aspen area boasts a trio of magic men with impressive credentials that are no illusion. Doc Eason, who performs Wednesday nights at Snowmass’ Stonebridge Inn, was named the 2008 Close-Up Magician of the Year. Eric Mead (at right), who practices “bar magic” Monday evenings at the Hotel Jerome Library, had a star turn in the film “The Aristocrats.” And while Aspen product Jeff Edmonds has vanished from local public venues, after years of doing tableside magic at the old Ute City Banque, he pops up at corporate events all over the country, stealing watches off wrists and making cigarettes float. Play your cards right, though, and you might catch Edmonds in the act of one of his favorite hometown tricks: throwing a playing card up and over the Hotel Jerome. —Stewart Oksenhorn
